PROGRAM OF STUDY
INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY
Degree: AAS | Graduation Requirements: 60 credits
Introduction to Information Technology (IT)
The curriculum of the program covers topics such as:
(1) Cybersecurity & Network Systems, (2) Full Stack Development, (3) Data Science Analytics
Cybersecurity and Network Systems are two interconnected areas that address the protection of information systems, data, and networks from unauthorized digital access, theft, damage, or disruption. Cybersecurity focuses on protecting computers, servers, software, and other digital devices from attacks, while Network Systems focus on managing and securing the communication networks that connect these devices to enable data exchange.
Full stack development refers to the practice of developing all aspects of a software application or website, from the front end user interface to the back end server-side logic and database management. Full stack developers usually have proficiency in multiple programming languages and frameworks, allowing them to work on different layers of the application stack. They typically have a wide range of skills and knowledge, including HTML, CSS, JavaScript, databases, server-side scripting languages like Ruby, Python, or Java, and other tools used in the development process.
Data science is an interdisciplinary field that involves the use of mathematical and statistical techniques, programming skills, and subject matter expertise to extract insights and knowledge from data. It encompasses a wide range of techniques including data mining, machine learning, statistical learning, and data visualization.
What You Will Study
Students begin their studies by selecting a total of 21 courses during two year. They attend the required courses in their major field according to a structured program. They are exposed to a wide variety of information technology theories and concepts and practices that fits a Career and Technical Education (Colombia Standards) of an Associate Degree equivalent to the American Standards. BA students have the opportunity to link academic theory to industry practice in their studies through internship placement, an integral component of the BA curriculum. Fieldtrips are key in the process.
Career Opportunities
IT graduates are well equipped to pursue employment in any sector of the Information Technology industry, including Cybersecurity analyst or consultant, network security manager, malware analyst, full stack developer, crytographer, DevOps engineer, UX/UI designer, software architect, data scientist, data analyst, machine learning engineer, data visualization specialist positions – around the world!
